Roche Guyon

La Roche-Guyon is located in the Val-d’Oise department in Île-de-France region.

 

La Roche-Guyon castle was built in the 12th century,

 

A few buses are leaving  from the train station Mantes la Jolie to the castle. 

A car is needed. 

The keep. 

The staircase, carved out of the chalk, leading to the keep.

 

The 100-step staircase runs up through the bluff, connecting the rock-carved fortress to the tower.

The chapel

 

The château-bas or lower castle, a fortified manor house, began construction in the mid 13th century. It was built directly out of the face of the bluff, concealing the original fortress

It was created in the 17th century.

 

The fruit garden comprises 4 large squares, each made up of 8 triangles, giving a total of 32 plots around which 675 fruit trees are grown: pear, apple, peach, plum… as well as vegetables and herbs.
