Forteresse Montbazon

The castle site of Montbazon is  situated in  Montbazon, located in the department of Indre-et-Loire and the Centre-Val de Loire region.

Bus 800G and H from Tours train station.

 

 

The fort was originally built in the 10th century by Fulk III “Nerra”, Count of Anjou.

 

Its position on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Indre River made it a key military and defensive site controlling access to the region.

 

 

The main tower is one of the oldest surviving stone keeps in France, built in the early 11th century. It stands around 28 meters high.
