Dourdan

Dourdan is a commune in the Essonne department in the region of Île-de-France.

 

From Paris Gare Austerlitz Line RER C to the eindstop Dourdan.

 

Dourdan became a royal city in 987.

The castle is build in 1220.

The donjon, the major defensive component of the castle, measures approximately 30 metres in height and 13.6 metres in diameter.

 

The donjon was still a royal prison during the 17th century. There is a museum of local history.

Stroll along the banks of the Orge.

The river crosses the town from west to east,  the river has someold wash-houses.

Church of Saint Germain d’Auxerre.

 

Construction of the church started  in 1150 and was completed by the end of the 12th century.
