Auvers sur Oise

Auvers-sur-Oise is a located in the department of Val-d’Oise in the region Ile de France.

 

It is associated with several famous artists, the most prominent being Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890).

This was the place where van Gogh died.

AuverssurOise is served by two stations on the Transilien line H Paris Nord;

 

Chaponval and AuverssurOise .

The stations are both on the Pontoise – Creil line .

Between April and October, direct trains run from Paris Gare du Nord

to Auvers on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The church

The church Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption is renowned for its depiction in Vincent van Gogh’s 1890 painting ‘The Church at Auvers.’

The church was originally founded towards the end of the 11th century.

It was rebuilt in 1137.

 

 

The church remains a pilgrimage site for art enthusiasts, offering a tangible connection to van Gogh, who is buried nearby in the Auvers-sur-Oise cemetery
