La Tour de l’Horloge (clock tower)

The fortresse of Chinon  is located in Chinon, in the department Indre-et-Loire in the region Centre-Val de Loire.

From Paris is takes 2h30 by train, with a changes in Tours.

 

The castle is build  between the 5th and 10th centuries.

The Tour du Coudray, in the early 14th century was used as a prison.

This tower owes its name to the monumental clock that it has housed since 1399.

The Dog Tower is a defensive tower.

 

 

The Dog Tower owes its name to the nearby kennel that housed the royal packs in the 15th century.

 

Its bread oven, located on the 1st floor, was supplemented in the 15th century by a second oven that leaned against the tower to the west.

 

This ensemble formed a bakery.
