The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge built in the first century AD to carry water over 50 km to the Roman colony of Nemausus (Nîmes)
The Pont du Gard is one of the best preserved Roman aqueduct bridges.
In summertime , the banks of the river are almost beach-like and become a real haven of cool and calm.

The aqueduct was built to channel water from the springs of the Fontaine d’Eure near Uzès to the repartition basin in Nîmes.
From there, it was distributed to fountains, baths and private homes around the city.
The Pont is 49 meters high above the river at low water and 274 meters long.
