Heusden

Heusden is a restored fortified city in the Dutch municipality Heusden.

At the end of the 16th century, the ramparts were further improved and expanded

Close to the Maas (here the Bergsche Maas) Heusden had to fight against the water for centuries

The city is completely surrounded by bastions, ravelins and therefore a lot of water. In 2018, Heusden was 700 years old

Demerrondeel.

In the Middle Ages, Heusden had a modest rampart.

The rebuilt Demerron part is an example of this as a defense tower.

The foundations date from 1300 when the Demer was still a city moat.

Don’t forget to look at the beautiful facades (some from the 17th century) with nice sounding names: ‘ Braveau ’, ’ t Heepen van Heusden ’, ‘ Heeren van Heusden ’. You will also find some cozy, nice shops and galleries.
