The Château de Montpoupon is located in the commune of Céré-la-Ronde in the Indre-et-Loire département in de region Centre.

The rocky promontory on which Montpoupon castle is built was chosen by a Germanic clan at the time of Charlemagne, the Poppos.
The etymology of the name is directly linked to this clan Mons Poppo (the hill of the Popponide clan), became “Mons Popeo”, “Mont poupon” and finally “Montpoupon”
From 1450, Antoine de Prie and his wife rebuilt Montpoupon castle, which had been almost completely destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War.
The postern was constructed in the 16th century.
