Marseille

Marseille is located in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in  the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

 

From Paris Gare de Lyon is 3h20 by train.

 

From Gare de Marne la Vallée Chessy is 3h11 by train. 

Vieux Port.

Founded around 600 BC by Greek settlers from Phocaea, Marseille is the oldest city in France.

 

It was known to the ancient Greeks as Massalia and to Romans as Massilia.

t was built in 1858 by Emperor Napoleon III for Empress Eugénie,his wife

 

In 1884, during the cholera epidemic, the palace was transformed into a ho spital.

Marseille has a major centre of art and history. The city has many museums and galleries and there are many ancient buildings and churches of historical interest.
